July Company Outing

The end of July is upon us, and the Crisp Team enjoyed another fantastic company outing! This time we all met up at the Rec Room here in Memphis where we played some arcade games, challenged each other in some video games, and enjoyed some pepperoni pizza and drinks! The summer days are still hot in Memphis, but this was one cool night out with Crisp Marketing!

June Outing

Last week the Crisp Crew took our June Outing at The Liquor Store here in Memphis! This quirky and charming little restaurant is nestled in with small art galleries and shops in the creative area of Memphis known as Broad Ave. We wined and dined the night away, and then a few of us took a walk down Broad to snap some photos and enjoy the sunset! We’re already looking forward to the next outing!

February Outing

Hello again! We hope everyone had a nice and relaxing weekend! In an effort to start this work week off right we’d like to show you some photos from our most recent company outing! The team met up at Lafayette’s Music Room here in Memphis. We ate some amazing food, had some cocktails, and caught an incredible live performance of Jocelyn and Chris Arndt. Combined with the mild weather, it turned out to be another fantastic company outing with Crisp Marketing!

By the way – one of us got to meet Jocelyn and Chris and get a photo! They’re so very sweet and unbelievably talented!

Looking forward to the next outing!

Happy Valentine’s Day from Crisp Marketing

Yesterday we had our “Mix Tape Party” (AKA Valentine’s Day office party – 80s style). Not only did we watch Dirty Dancing and listen to some 80s romance songs, but we got all pizza’d out and even played a quick round of 80s Rom Com Trivia!

We even got a few pictures of our team members in full Valentine’s Day spirit!

Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us at Crisp Marketing!

Puzzle Day in the Crisp Office!

January 29th is National Puzzle Day and we decided to celebrate here in the Crisp Office with a puzzle exchange!

Everyone took a turn drawing a number to see what turn they go to pick a puzzle.

Then we took turns picking a puzzle based on what number we drew.

Turns out everyone got the puzzle they wanted! Happy National Puzzle Day from Crisp Marketing!

We all gathered in our favorite conference room and enjoyed some brew-inspired decor, a mini-flight of locally-made beers, and of course – Beer Bingo!

We ordered in some burgers from a local burger joint (which were AWESOME), and everyone went home with their own beer mug and homemade popcorn! All in all, our International Beer Day celebration was a complete success!

The Blue Room – Meet Jake

Welcome to another edition of The Blue Room here at Crisp Marketing! This month’s spotlight falls on one of our in-house graphic designers, Jake Call.

What is your title at Crisp Marketing?

Lead Web Designer / Graphic Designer

How long have you worked for Crisp?

2 years and 10 months

Give us an idea of what you do regularly in your role.

My role at Crisp Marketing is to design solutions with high visual impact. I cooperate with the Marketing Director, Marketing Coordinator, Content Developers, and Graphic Designers on a variety of web projects including websites, wireframes, landing pages, and co-registration paths.

What would your coworkers say if I asked them to tell me about you? In other words, how are you known at work?

My coworkers would probably say that I’m a movie junkie because I’m constantly carrying on conversations strictly in movie quotes. I think they would also say that I’m a private person; however, it’s not so much that I am secretive, but rather getting to know me is a gradual process that cannot be rushed. I think patience and the incremental building of trust rewards people with genuine, intimate relationships.

What do you enjoy most about your current position?

Using my initiative to solve design related problems is definitely an aspect I relish, but what I enjoy most about my current position is definitely the friendly, helpful, and collaborative atmosphere provided by my coworkers. The workplace is a joint space, and teamwork makes the dream work.

Would you consider yourself right-brain or left-brain dominant and why?

I’m probably more left brained, but I strive to reach a level where both my right and left hemisphere are in perfect harmony. Rather than dominating each other, they work together to create a well-balanced “me”.

What are your favorite places to go in Memphis?

Memphis is my home, and I love it dearly because there are tons of fun activities and more importantly…places to EAT! Robata – Ramen & Yakitori Bar in Overton Square is a quaint Japanese restaurant with some great appetizers (Crispy Eggplant…YUM). Beauty Shop in Cooper Young offers tasty brunch. Las Delicias, DeJaVu, and Jerry’s Sno Cones are frequent visits as well. The places where I have a lot of fun include: The Dixon Art Museum, Shelby Farms Park, and The Orpheum Theatre.

Before working at Crisp, what is the most unusual or most interesting job you ever had?

I wish I had more life experience that comes with unusual jobs, but sadly I do not. I used to work for two businesses under one roof. P.T. Squared: Physical Therapy & Personal Training in the Collierville Towne Square used to house Cheers Event Planning, and I was the graphic designer for both companies. Working for two completely different establishments at once was definitely interesting, but I’m a Gemini so it also felt like home.

What month and day is your birthday?

Birthdays are interesting to me. If babies grow in the womb for nine months how come they aren’t declared nine months old when they are born? Maybe we should change birthday to Conceived Day? My birthday is June 8, 1988, so I’m 28 years and 9 months old.

Where did you go to school?

The University of Memphis is my alma mater where I studied graphic design, but as far as life lessons I credit Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Do your stuff Hufflepuff!

What is your favorite movie and book?

Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory is my favorite movie and City of Thieves by David Benioff is my favorite book…so far.

Who are three famous people (living or dead) that you admire or relate to?

Qualities that I admire in people, famous or not, include: empathy, intelligence, positivity, individuality, and reliability. I can’t really relate to famous people because I don’t have the desire to be in the public eye. The author of The Catcher in the Rye, J.D. Salinger, is someone I admire because his works are brilliant and yet he remained reclusive for the majority of his life.

Tell us a little bit about your life outside of work. (hobbies, family life, side jobs, etc)

I collect PEZ Dispensers and I’m a whip fanatic. The Cattleman’s Crack is my specialty. Also, I love going to the movies, reading, and drawing.

Tell us a story about something cool you have done – a vacation, accomplishment, something like that.

Las Vegas is one of my most memorable vacation destinations. I’m a fan of the American Southwest, and it was my first time seeing such stunning geographical formations. It was also my first experience with an arid climate, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned while walking through Sin City, it’s that you’ve got to have water with you at all times. A traveling buddy suffered a scary case of dehydration and wound up in the Vegas ER…the VEGAS ER, filled with every colorful character you can imagine including a very broken Elvis – a boo hoo baby.

Describe your teenage self. What were you like as a teenager?

I was a pretty straight laced teen. Decent grades in school, and really wasn’t involved in extracurricular activities other than the Art Club. A lot of the characteristics I had as a teen I’ve carried over into my adult life, some of which are good and some I’m still working on. Yet, I can say with confidence that I’m a little wiser now.

What would your friends/family say about you if I asked them to tell me about you? How are you known outside of work?

My friends and family would probably say that I’m silly. I’m very playful outside of work and I love to have fun.

If you could spend a day hanging out with anyone from any time period, who would it be and why?

I’d like to time travel to the actual period of my choosing with my best friend and hang out with the influential figures of the age. It’s a tie between Ancient Greece/Rome and The Renaissance. These periods had such vast amounts of knowledge, philosophy, medicine, art, language, law, and societal reformations that inspired modern innovations. On the journey I’d like to hang out with Aristotle, Michelangelo, and Leonardo da Vinci.

What are a couple of life or career lessons that you have learned so far?

Be eclectic in your interests and diversify different aspects of your life to gain satisfying and profitable experiences.

What advice would you give your teenage self?

Invest in social media platforms because those are going to be big. Education happens in and out of the classroom, so never take it for granted. Cultivate patience and empathy, and be open to new perspectives.

What is your life philosophy, motto or favorite quote?

Never underestimate the value of encouragement.
