Celebrate National Authors’ Day Today!
Do you celebrate Authors’ Day? This is a national holiday that is celebrated every November 1.
History of Authors’ Day
It was 1928, and the Illinois Women’s Club was meeting to enjoy the writings of some of their favorite authors. Nellie Verne Burt McPherson decided to bring up the idea of having a day dedicated to American Authors and brought it up to her club members. She submitted her suggestion to the General Federation of Women’s Club.
Twenty years later, in 1949, the United States Department of Commerce made Authors’ Day an official holiday, and it’s been celebrated every year ever since.
How to celebrate
What can you do to celebrate? There are several paths to take when it comes to celebrating this particular holiday. Which is your favorite?
- Read an American Classic
- Read a book you’ve never read before
- Read a book by an Indie author
- Re-read your favorite book
- Write a book review
Any of these options are viable options. If you consider yourself a book worm (like us), maybe try challenging yourself by completing the list. Our advise is to add a few cups of coffee to the list to make it through.
